Editing by Using the "Enhancements" Editing Tools on Youtube
To edit directly on YouTube via its “Enhancements” feature is very simple.
To begin, login to your YouTube channel. Click on “My Channel,” which can be found on the left side of the screen just beneath the YouTube icon in the upper left corner. From here you will be directed to your channel’s page. Click the “Video Manager” button that sits above your personal icon/channel art bar at the top of the page just below the search bar. You will be directed to your library of videos/clips.
Find the specific episode you wish to work with. Just to the right of the clip’s thumbnail you will find an “Edit” button with a downward arrow next to it. Click on “Edit.” You will then be directed to the edit screen for the clip. Along the top of the preview screen you will find a series of tabs reading: Info and Settings, Enhancements, Audio, Annotations, Subtitles and CC. A red bar should be under the “Info and Settings” tab. Just to the right of that will be the “Enhancements” bar. Click on this tab.
You will be directed to a page with the clip player/preview screen split in two with an “Original” side and a “Preview” side. Next to the lower right corner of the clip player/split screen (just below the Slow Motion option tabs) you will find a button reading “Trim” with a pair of scissors next to it. Click on the “Trim” button. A blue bar should appear on each side of the timeline below the preview screen/clip player. Find the point on the timeline where you want to trim the clip. Once selected, click the “Split” button that is just below the timeline. (There should be a “Clear” button just to the right of the “Split” button.) A small “x” will appear above the selected trim. To delete the selection, click on the small “x.” If you wish to delete the other section of the clip, simply click on the other half of the clip and the small “x” will appear above that section instead.
Once the clip has been trimmed to its desired length, click “Done,” which can be found to the right of the “Split” and “Clear” tabs. The timeline will be readjusted and begin playing from the new start point. To save the clip, click on the “Save as new video” button that is on the right side of the screen, below the “Subtitles and CC” tab along the top of the page. The trimmed clip will automatically save with the naming convention of “Copy of __________” ( “_____” being whatever the initial clip was named. For example, if the original clip was “ZEEKS ANIMAL WORLD PAL EP03” the new video will save as “Copy of ZEEKS ANIMAL WORLD PAL EP03”).
After saving the new clip, you will be directed to your library of videos again. To rename the video, click on the “Edit” button again (you will find it to the right of the clip’s thumbnail). You will be directed to the “Info and Settings” page again. The name of the clip will appear in the first box just below the “Basic info” tab at the top of the page. Rename the clip to its desired title. The “Save Changes” button (found on the right side of the page) will turn blue. When satisfied, click on the button. You will be directed to the “Video Processing” page. To trim the next clip, click the “Video Manager” button that is found beneath the lower-right corner of the preview screen (that will be grey and have the “Video Processing” banner across it). You will be directed back to your video library. Click on your episode and begin again.
